Mark Finlay

MARK P. FINLAY, AIA - PRINCIPAL

Mark P. Finlay, President and founder of the firm received an Associate Degree in Architectural Engineering from the Wentworth Institute in Boston, Massachusetts.  He then continued his studies at the University of Kentucky at Lexington, where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture Degree and won top honors for architectural design.  During his last semester at the University of Kentucky, he traveled to Europe to further his studies in architecture.  He studied primarily in Paris and Venice.  Upon his return to the U.S., Finlay went on to work for the firm of Kevin Roche, John Dinkeloo and Associates in Hamden, Connecticut for seven years. 

In 1984, Finlay established Mark P. Finlay Architects, AIA.  As principal and senior designer of the firm, he oversees and personally directs the design and execution of each of the firm’s projects.  Since its opening, Finlay’s work has been recognized by numerous awards and widely published in Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Golf Digest and Town & Country among other leading national and regional publications.  The firm’s work has been featured in many books including Architect Russell Versaci’s “Roots of Home,” released in 2008. 

Finlay is a registered architect in the states of Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.  He is also a member of the American Institute of Architecture and the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America. 

Finlay and his wife Jeanne have four children and reside in Fairfield, Connecticut.


ROBERT J. DEVORE - VICE PRESIDENT

Robert DeVore graduated from the Chester Institute for Technical Education in Stratford, Connecticut. After graduation, he went on to work at a national retail design firm and then spent several years working in various architectural offices. DeVore joined Mark P. Finlay Architects, AIA shortly after its establishment in 1984. He was later named Vice President and Head of Production. He is a registered architect in the state of Connecticut.


JAY L. VALADE, JR. - PARTNER

Jay L. Valade, Jr. attended the University of Notre Dame's School of Architecture in South Bend, Indiana where also took part in the University's year long Rome Studies Program in Rome, Italy. During his studies, Valade took on an internship at Mark P. Finlay Architects, AIA. He graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree and went on to work for Finlay full time. In 2005, he was named Senior Design Partner. Valade is a registered architect in the state of Connecticut.


JOSEPH P. MULLIGAN - PARTNER

Joseph P. Mulligan graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, New York. After graduation he worked at A. J. Palmieri Architects & Associates for ten years on small scale commercial properties. From there he moved to Kasper Associates for three years as the Director of Architecture and Engineering for many small and large scale commercial projects. Mulligan joined Mark P. Finlay Architects, AIA in 1999 and was named partner in 2005. Mulligan is a registered architect in the state of Connecticut.
